1st Filipino-American, Miss Texas wins Miss USA 2022

R’Bonney Gabriel will now represent the United States at the 71st Miss Universe pageant on January 14, 2023, in New Orleans.

R’Boneey Gabriel graduated from the University of North Texas in 2018 and has her own independent clothing label out of the Houston area. She’s Friendswood model and fashion designer as well.

R’Boneey Gabriel was the first Asian-American to win the Miss Texas USA title in July this year, before being crowned as Miss USA 2022.

Despite achieving a historic milestone, Gabriel does not forget to honor her Filipino roots, a cultural identity that she considers as a “big responsibility.”

Gabriel succeeds Miss Kentucky Elle Smith, who was named Miss USA in 2021. Smith, 23, crowned her successor during Monday's ceremony, officially passing off her duties as last year's winner as a result.

After winning the title of Miss Texas in July, Gabriel told Houston Life, a show that airs on NBC affiliate KPRC of Houston, she was proud to be a positive representative.
